Arriving At Your Destination

Following a rainbow will neither lead you to your destination nor to a pot of gold. However, should a rainbow unfold over you, it can make your heart feel glad because as it may symbolize the difficult time you have endured has passed. Tomorrow invites new possibilities as you can breathe freely once again.

Prolog

Not long ago I wrote a couple of articles on Linked In. The first, titled, Moving Your Team described our families decided to set out on a new adventure. We decided to move from our home of over 10 years. We learned what it meant to go All-In as we worked together over 8 months to make the right move. We are now enjoying our new stopping point.

What follows are my reflections on making a successful move in the work context.

Teams committed to the same vision are strong

To arrive at the intended destination, each team member should buy into the vision. The goal should be clear and each person required to contribute effort along the way. Circumstances can become difficult along the journey. Being flexible with each other while retaining a commitment to the goal can ensure we don't defeat ourselves. Teams committed to the same vision possess the strength to finish what they start.

Enjoy the road towards the destination

Along the way, there will be successes, challenges, and opportunities.  Taking advantage of every chance to learn, grow, and appreciate every step along the way can make us more generous and empathetic people.

Responding to adversity with positivity gives us the opportunity to bring more generosity and empathy into the world.

Celebrate the adventure

When we arrive at the end of the adventure and before we begin the next, we should take the opportunity to celebrate.   Have a party, buy something to commemorate the experience, and talk about the story and what it meant to you.

It might be that what we just went through may become a pivotal time in our life when looking back.  We shouldn't take any goal we have achieved for granted.  Don’t forget to recognize the remarkable. Celebrate!
